Late one evening, as the sun dipped behind the palace towers, King Midas wandered into the rose garden. His golden slippers scuffed the earth, and suddenly he tripped, nearly face-first into the soil. Looking down, he saw a curious little creature.
“Who the heck are you?” the king exclaimed.
“I’m Brian, a woodland creature,” the figure replied. His small frame had shaggy fur trousers, hooves for feet, and a long dark beard that brushed the ground. “I got lost, haven’t eaten in days…” He trailed off and fainted.
Midas, though obsessed with gold, had a kind heart. He lifted Brian and carried him to the palace. Servants fed him and tucked him into a warm bed.
The next morning, Goldie peeked at the stranger. “My daddy found you in the rose garden. Did you sleep okay?”
Brian yawned, stretching his tiny arms. “If it wasn’t for your dad, I wouldn’t have survived the night. He’s very kind.”
