Without thinking, Lyria dove, scooped him into her arms, and brought him to a quiet beach. Singing softly, she soothed him until his chest rose and fell in deep sleep.

Lyria nodded, tears filling her eyes. She loved the prince, she truly did—but the ocean called her home. As the sun sank below the horizon, her legs vanished, and her tail reappeared.
The prince watched, bewildered, as she slipped into the water. She waved one last time. “I’ll never forget you,” she whispered.
Back in the palace, Lyria devoured sea biscuits, laughter bubbling through the coral halls. She realized she didn’t need to live above the waves to experience love; she carried it in her heart, forever entwined with the human world and her own.
